for may-june residency at gmtc, outlines for a dispersed commons marks a new chapter in tamara khasanova’s ongoing curiosity about the meanings, imaginaries, processes, hierarchies, and forms of organizing in and around what we typically understand as food in our day-to-day. held as a thought in progress in collaboration with the artists, organizers, makers and educators, the series approaches food as a form of dispersed commons.

beyond its properties and role as a source of sustenance, food becomes a site of relations through which to question infrastructure and the social, material, political, and aesthetic conditions embedded in everyday life. dispersion is a proposition to think about the reality of being in one place and simultaneously in many–across geographies, communities, and languages, through both distance and proximity–beyond one’s physical presence, the immediacy of an apartment block, neighborhood, or city.

over the course of june, outlines for a dispersed commons will gather around these thoughts and questions through a series of performances and discursive events, with the list of participants and detailed schedule to be announced in the coming days.
