this performance program will explore forces and movements beyond the physical through digital web & soundscapes, in conjunction with the group exhibition centrifugal presented at island gallery.
🚀 hebin rachel shin’s web performance integrates directly with the island gallery’s online territory. when you click shin’s satellite icon, floating horizontally on the website, it takes you to real-time pixel data streamed from the international space station (iss). as the iss orbits earth at approximately 28,000 kilometers per hour, the average pixel values of the earth’s exterior translate into constant shifts on the digital interface. 🗻 isaac silber’s transmissive dispersals, a series of three sonic performances, involves fm radio transmitters, a radio receiver, a plastic tub in a tank of water, a pair of hydrophone microphones, digital effects processing, and a pair of old yamaha speakers. listening to the sounds of bowery down below the island gallery fire escape, the performance involves playing with the feedback created in the final circuit of this circuitous signal path, hearing the radio’s vibration in the air mixed with its dispersion inside the water.
