connected remotely with campo refinería, cabimas, 𝐦𝐚𝐫í𝐚 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐚’s cousin 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐥 will interview one of the drummers 𝐬𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚, who participates in the celebration of san benito. through a pre-recorded conversation and demonstration, they will introduce the basic drum rhythms, or golpes, and explain how people walk, dance, and move with the drums during the procession.

🪘🪇 participants at gmtc will then respond to the rhythms and practice some of these movements together. afterward, we will attempt to call 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐥 to ask questions and share our dancing. however, a live connection cannot be guaranteed due to the frequent power outages cabimas has experienced since 2019.
