throughout november, 𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐳 and 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐯 will turn to pervasive non-human urban lifeforms—𝖘𝖖𝖚𝖎𝖗𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖘 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖉 𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖘 𝖆𝖙 𝖜𝖆𝖗—to synthesize experimental performance in gmtc - golden monkey trading company 金猿商社‘s space.
drawing from an eponymous 19th-century newspaper article describing rodent-feline relations in central park, 𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 and 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐫 will enact a month-long performance of spatial contestation and sanctuary inside gmtc. the space will become a live site of inquiry into the cultural archetypes of 𝖘𝖖𝖚𝖎𝖗𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖘 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖉 𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖘 𝖆𝖙 𝖜𝖆𝖗, manifesting through an accumulating series of objects, sculptures and drawings.
a durational performance at the end of november will activate a ”dream den“ in which 𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 and 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐫 allow these animal archetypes to inform their actions both inside and on the streets of manhattan.
💫 stay tuned for the performance date and feel free to visit 𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥‘s open studio every tuesday and thursday 4-7:30pm and sunday 12-6pm.
𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐳 @reallygoodatmath is a nyc-based multidisciplinary artist working across dance, performance, and ceramics, creating works that explore ephemerality in both bodies and objects. drawing from slow cinema, psychoanalysis, and natural environments, she foregrounds the mundane and finds poetic possibility in melancholy.
𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐯 investigates the marginalization and care of black bodies in contemporary life. based in philadelphia, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 explores the way that blackness is shaped in and by city space, producing possibilities for representation that exist apart from global advertising strategies.
