about the performance:
𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒕é𝒔, whose solo exhibition “dead parrot radio” is concurrently on view at @smackmellon (brooklyn, ny), will utilize the space at gmtc to rehearse a new performance. at the artist’s request, all attendees must arrive wearing leather or vegan leather shoes. 👞👢
💫 𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒕é𝒔 (b. 1989, urequio, michoacán, mexico) received a ba from ucla, 2012 and a mfa from yale school of art, 2021. he currently lives and works in brooklyn, ny. he has exhibited at jenkins johnson projects (brooklyn, ny), massmoca (north adams, ma), space one (seoul, korea), asu art museum (tempe, az), visitor welcome center (los angeles, ca), craft contemporary (los angeles, ca), the shed (new york, ny), and subtitlednyc (brooklyn, ny), amongst others. he was a franklin furnace fellow (2021-2022), was the saint elmo artist in residence and fellow at ut austin (2021-2022). recent residencies include star residency, tiger strikes asteroid (ny, 2022) field projects artist in residence (ny, 2023) and bemis center residency (omaha, ne 2023). he is a nysca and brooklyn arts council recipient for 2025. 💫 with more than 10 years of experience specializing in artist-to-artist dialogues, 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒎𝒄𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 is a writer and editor whose work has been published by the new york review of books, artreview, bomb magazine, t: the new york times style magazine, the paris review, wkcr public radio, bookforum, the comics journal, and more.
she is currently managing editor at christie’s, where she produces stories spanning 80 global art and object categories, from the old masters to contemporary art. she is also a contributing editor in art at bomb, where since 2016 she’s collaborated with artists and writers on dozens of long-form interviews, essays, reviews, and projects. she launched the magazine’s comics section and served as the institutional voice of the fuse podcast for two seasons.
