𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂 𝒅𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂 and 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒖𝒔 𝒄𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏 with jenny wu

about the performance:
𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂 𝒅𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂, known for staging durational performances with her body and voice, as well as with day laborers and immigrants from cente and south america, will rehearse a new work that draws on material connections between gmtc and its neighbors on canal street.

💫 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂 𝒅𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂 is a filmmaker, performance artist and founded @desnivelgallery. she is also a co-founder of @artistsandmothers launched in 2024. she was born in 1980 in lima, peru, and immigrated to miami in the early ’90s. her work, which critiques politics and comments on the marginalized, primarily revolves around her own experiences of immigration, migration, and cultural differences. through this personal lens and using conceptual projects and performances that often directly involve the audience, she addresses larger themes of migration, labor, and the conditions of contemporary art. she currently lives and works in new york city.

💫 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒖𝒔 𝒄𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏 writes frequently about art and interviews artists for publications including artreview, boston art review, bomb, and sculpture. he studied performance. in san francisco, the poet kari edwards was a mentor. in graduate school at university of california, irvine, he worked with yvonne rainer.
